This site is great as a forum, however, I wish there was something more “real time” to chat about igraph.
Does there exist a Discord or slack server to share and discuss everything igraph?

Unfortunately there is no Discord or Slack server at the moment, mostly due to lack of resources from the core development team – most of us would not have the time to also keep an eye on the Discord or Slack server and answer questions there, and I believe that an igraph Discord server without the core devs being involved would not be of much use to be honest.
Understandable.
@tamas Thanks for the response.
I think its still worth arguing that having the ability to have a community in more common mediums of communication (such as discord and/or slack) will increase igraph’s adoption and visibility.
My point of view is coming from individuals who are not a part of the core team to have the ability to interact with other igraph experts (be they from the core team or not) and practitioners.
Would the construction of an unofficial server be in poor taste or favorable in the eyes of the core team?
I don’t mind if you create an unofficial server; in fact, I already spend an unhealthy amount of time on Discord due to other projects so I’ll probably join and hang around, but I won’t be able to commit myself officially to declaring the Discord server as an official support channel. Also, I will probably not have the time to promote the channel, but I will be happy to add a link to it from the homepage (pending approval from other members of the core dev team) and post an announcement to let others know about it.
I made a server. Here’s a 7-day invite link:
